'ND Crown' chickpea (RFP-322)

ND Crown was developed by North Dakota State University and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2020. It is a high-yielding kabuli chickpea that consistently produces large seed, is resistant to lodging with great standability, and comparable maturity to commercial cultivars like CDC Frontier and CDC Orion. The average height of ND Crown is 26.4 inches and the average maturity date is 115 days from planting.

In addition, ND Crown exhibits moderate resistance to Ascochyta blight, and shines under high disease pressure, displaying significantly lower Ascochyta blight severity than CDC Frontier and CDC Orion. ND Crown is ideal for whole seed and processed markets, such as hummus, because of its larger seed size compared with commonly grown cultivars.

To help ensure genetic purity, 'ND Crown' Chickpea is protected under PVPA Title V (certificate no. 202000362) and must be sold as a class of certified seed.
