Novel Injectible Polymers for Controlled Delivery of Insulin

RFT-241

Scientists at NDSU have recently invented an injectable polymeric delivery system that can be used for the release of basal insulin for treating diabetes patients.

The system has been shown to produce a zero order release of insulin over extended periods of up to three months with concurrent reduction in blood glucose levels. This invention, therefore, holds the unique potential to reduce the frequency of insulin administration in diabetic patients to every 2 to 3 months.

Additionally, unlimited number of therapeutic agents can be delivered over extended periods of time employing this technology.
