'Grenora'

The direct parentage of Grenora includes two NDSU experimental durum lines. The ancestry of these two experimental lines includes the durum varieties Ward, Yuma, Wells, Laker, Cando, Vic, Leeds, Lakota, and Langdon. Grenora was a very strong yield performer in recent NDSU yield trials. The overall yield potential of Grenora may be the greatest of Alkabo, Divide, and Grenora; however, when selecting a variety one should look at data from several near-by locations and try to include multiple years of testing. Grenora appears to be the earliest maturing of the new durum releases (1 day < Alkabo and 2 day < Divide on average). The test weight of Grenora averages roughly one-half lb/bus less than Divide, and one lb/bus less than Alkabo. The overall quality of Grenora has been rated as good, which is a slight improvement over ‘Mountrail’ which is rated as average. Grenora is rated as resistant to stem and leaf rust, intermediate in its reaction to tan spot and the septoria complex, and moderately susceptible to Fusarium head blight (Scab). Grenora has white chaff, is medium in height, has strong straw, and is medium in maturity.
