'Council' was released by NDSU in 1995. Classed as Grp 0.6, Council is about 1 day earlier than Dawson and 2 days later than Ozzie. Yields have been equal or greater than Dawson and Ozzie with less lodging. 'Council' has purple flowers, gray pubescence on its stems and dull yellow seeds with yellow hila. It has the Rps1 gene for phytophthora root rot (races 1 and 2) resistance. 'Council' is iron efficient and has shown good tolerance to high pH soils.
